Phone and reminders

Institflow installs on a phone straight from the browser — with your institute's name and logo as the icon — and reminds students and teachers about what is coming up. There is no app store involved and nothing to download.

Install it on your phone

Sign in to your institute in your phone's browser, then:

  • Android (Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet): a small card at the bottom of the screen offers Install. You can also use the browser menu and choose Install app.
  • iPhone and iPad (Safari): tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Other browsers on iOS cannot do this; open the page in Safari.
  • Computer (Chrome, Edge): the install icon appears in the address bar.

The installed app opens full-screen from your home screen with your institute's logo. If your institute has not uploaded a logo, it shows the Institflow mark instead. Close the card with Not now and it stays away for 30 days; you can always install later from Profile → App & reminders.

What the app keeps on your device

Only a small "you are offline" page. It never stores your students, grades, invoices or any other data on the device, and when the network is down you simply see that page until it comes back.

Reminders

Institflow sends three kinds of reminder:

  • A class starts within the hour — to the students of the group and to the teacher of that session.
  • Something is due tomorrow and you have not submitted it — assignments, lesson tasks and quizzes, counted on your institute's calendar and time zone, sent in the daytime (09:00–21:00). Only students the unit is for receive it: a unit set to specific groups reminds only those groups.
  • A new lesson is published — to the students it is for.

Each reminder is sent once. If a class is cancelled, a task is submitted, or a unit is hidden from a student, no reminder is sent. If a class is moved or a due date changes, the new time gets its own reminder.

Reminders appear in the app's inbox. They are not sent by email unless the institute switches that on, because email is a paid channel; they are never sent by SMS or WhatsApp.

Settings

For the institute (owner or manager): Settings → Reminders switches each type on or off and decides whether reminders may also be emailed. The settings are also available through the API and the MCP server as reminders.classStartsSoon, reminders.workDueTomorrow, reminders.emailEnabled and curriculum.notifyOnLessonPublished.

For each person: Profile → App & reminders lets anyone switch off any of the three types for themselves.

Browser notifications

Notifications that arrive on your device even when the app is closed are being prepared; the install and the in-app reminders work today without them. When your server enables them, a Browser notifications switch appears under Profile → App & reminders, and your browser asks for permission only when you press it.

Troubleshooting

  • No install card on Android: you must be signed in, using a browser that supports installing, and the app must not already be installed. Use the browser menu as a fallback.
  • The icon shows the Institflow mark, not my logo: the logo must be a PNG, JPEG or WebP of at most 5 MB, uploaded in Settings → Institute profile. It can take a few minutes to appear.
  • I am not getting reminders: check your own switches under Profile → App & reminders, then ask the institute whether the type is switched on in Settings → Reminders.
